Project Management:

  • Managed timelines and high-level part design and CAD assembly for aerodynamics team of ~12 people

  • Reviewed part design and provided guidance on CAD improvements and analytical setup

  • Tested and taught carbon fiber manufacturing techniques to the team for wings and body panels

  • Handled material procurement and outsourced machining for complex geometries on molds and airfoil inserts

Part Design:

  • Performed preliminary FEA on front wing swan neck to check feasibility and provide design choice justification

  • Fixed major CAD errors that broke the assembly or were harder to troubleshoot

Structures Subsystem Lead

Project Management:

  • Broke down parts into design tasks and delegated to members on structures,

  • Provided check-ins and advice on CAD

  • Provided updates to Aero lead during meetings and helped make design and timeline decisions

  • Led carbon fiber layups to ensure correct order of application and consistent results

  • Guided manufacturing process of nosecone through machining sourcing issue - helped make decision to 3D print the mold and led the team through the layup

Part Design/Manufacturing:

  • Designed and performed FEA on rear wing swan neck and iterated design to optimize flow obstruction, weight, and strength

  • Designed nosecone and nosecone mold with added complexity of decoupled suspension packaging

  • Fixed major CAD errors

  • Developed new airfoil manufacturing technique with foam core instead of ribs and spars
